Seoul - The City - Samyetang at Myeondong

On our last day in Seoul, we decided to try something else other than pork, pork, pork..... Ginseng Chicken Soup Samyetang at Myeongdong.

Frankly speaking, we didn't exactly enjoy this dish.

The seafood pancake was on the heavy side and both of us could not finish it. This was ok.

After lunch, we went back to our hotel, checked out and took the airport transfer - which took about 1 1/2 hr to reach Incheon International Airport. So, please plan your time well.

Seoul - The City - Tonkatsu, BBQ and Ramen at Myeondong

After 2 nights at Courtyard Marriott, we moved to Metro Hotel for another 2 nights located in Myeongdong. This hotel is very convenient - shopping and food!

So begins our food exploration!  Our friend recommended us to try this restaurant serving tonkatsu. Tonkatsu in Seoul? Well, why not? Seoul is famous for it's good quality pork.

This outlet is in Myeongdong. 3 floors. So, waiting time is not that bad eventhough there was a queue from 1st floor all the way up!

mine is the normal tonkatsu - deep fried pork cutlet.

this is with cheese

The ground floor is more interesting as they prepare the cutlets there.

After lunch, we walked around Myeongdong and did some shopping. It was very crowded.  For early dinner, we found a nice place for beef BBQ.  (This is because some restaurants do not serve beef or chicken. They only serve pork.)

Their marbled pork is very fresh and delicious too!

I tried the raspberry wine. It is very sweet. Recommended to go on the rocks for this.

Restaurant name - Wangbijib.  Thumbs up!

After a very full dinner, we went to Dongdaemun to burn off!

We stopped by this little restaurant on the way back to our hotel.  This is supper!!!

very nice spicy ramen! yumm!!

Seoul - Food Tour

From Trip Advisor, we've read so much on Ongo Food Tour.  I booked the tour online in advance and were told to meet up in their office at the appointed date.  This food tour is fun and you get to meet other tourists. Our guide, Chuck is cheerful and kept the mood light and happy with the liquor he kept pouring.

First stop, BBQ meat.  This outlet was introduced to be the first shop that started it all - Korean BBQ!
The above are some condiments to go with the meat.

These is a curved pit. Supposedly to make the fire more even for the meat.

The shochu is mixed with Coke. Taste great!

We were told to not overeat. Next stop - This mini restaurant sells simple farmer's food.  No meat here.

some deco on the walls.

Makgeolli - rice wine.  This goes well with the food being served (remember, no meat! Therefore, no shochu)

nice kimchi!

huge block of tofu.

Next stop, to a placed that served "bong-chu boiled chicken"

This is like chicken stew boiled with noodles and lots of carrots, cucumbers, potatoes, etc dumped in.  This tasted great!  After that, Chuck took us for a walk in a night market.

Mung beng pancakes. These are delicious!

The night ended at this night market. Locals were busy dining in this area after work.  This food tour is highly recommended. Thumbs up!
